YOUTH
「兵庫県立美術館」（兵庫県神戸市中央区脇浜海岸通1丁目1−1）に
足を向けたのは、無論、「河鍋暁斎」展（後期）の鑑賞が第一義
とはいえ、もうひとつ、気になることがあったのです。5月下旬に
第2展示棟「安藤ギャラリー」がオープンすると聞いていたので、
そちらも見物がてら……が、5月23日以降までお預けとなりました。残念。
代わりに、前回、ゆっくり観ることが出来なかった安藤忠雄・デザインの
「青いりんご」を鑑賞。繊維強化プラスチック（FRP）製で、直径約2.5m。
摩耶埠頭に望んだ海のデッキに、大きな果実がぽんと差し出されたような
無造作な配置は、嫌いじゃないです。安藤・設計の県美は、ちょっとした
“迷宮”になっており、目当ての林檎は眼前にあるのに、一旦外の階段から
大回りして上がっていかないといけなかったりして、プチ冒険気分かな。
「目指すは甘く実った赤リンゴではない、未熟で酸っぱくとも
明日への希望へ満ち溢れた青りんごの精神」と安藤忠雄が言葉を寄せ、
駄目押しのように、サミュエル・ウルマン（1840～1924）の詩「青春」まで
引用されていました。或る世代の方々、“青春の詩”が大好きですよねえ。

いつまでも若さに縋り付こうとするアメリカ人の嗜好や成功哲学はともかく、
苦悶、狐疑、不安、恐怖、失望は、人の世のスパイスではないのか？
と、ぼくなどは管見します。底の無いどん底を落ち続ける中、肯定する力が
残っていないのならば、それだけの話。老若を問わず、くたばるが必定。

When the wires are all down and all the central place of your heart is covered with the snows of pessimism and the ice of cynicism, then you are grown old indeed and may God have mercy on your soul.
